Your responsibilities will vary by position and may include:

Youth Sport Coach:

• Coaching practices for TK-8 students at assigned campuses across LA County.

• Utilizing HFA coaching curriculum (soccer, basketball, and/or tennis).

• Mentoring assistant Student Coaches from local high schools and colleges.

• Setting up and cleaning up practice environment.

• Maintaining communication with HFA staff.

• Attending required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions.

• Follow HFA policies, safety protocols, school-site requirements, and professional standards.

Standby Coach & Game Ref/Coach:

The Standby Coach & Game Ref/Coach is responsible for the same core coaching responsibilities listed above, with additional responsibilities related to substitute coverage and league games, including:

• Provide substitute coaching coverage when a regular HFA coach is unavailable.

• Remain available and reachable during scheduled standby hours and respond to coverage requests as needed.

• Report to assigned school sites on short notice when substitute coverage is needed.

• Serve as a coach or referee for HFA league games as assigned.

• Maintain reliable transportation to assigned school sites and game locations.

• Follow all additional Standby Coach requirements outlined in the position’s job description.

Youth Sport Coach:

• Monday–Friday (days vary)

• Part-time after-school coaching

  • Downey: 3:00 - 5:00PM

  • El Monte: varies between 2:30 - 5:30PM

  • Whittier: 2:30 - 5:30PM

Coaches are assigned to specific school or schools and are expected to work their scheduled practices on a recurring basis for the duration of the program or season, following the partner school’s academic calendar.

Standby Coach & Game Ref/Coach:

• Monday–Friday (days vary)

• Part-time after-school coaching/reffing

  • Standby hours: Generally 1:30–5:30 PM on assigned standby days

  • Game days: Scheduled league games and other game-day assignments throughout the season

Standby Coaches must remain available and reachable during their scheduled standby hours and be prepared to report to an assigned school or game location when coverage is needed. Some substitute or game assignments may be scheduled in advance.

Additional Opportunities

Both positions may have opportunities to participate in coaching education, staff meetings, trainings, professional development, and HFA events that take place outside of regular after-school and coaching hours throughout the school year.

• Age: Must be 18+

• Background Check: Required before employment.

• Training & Certifications: TB, CPR, Mandated Reporter, etc.

• Transportation: Reliable transportation required.

• Physical Requirements: Comfortable working outdoors and participating in sports.
