How our Sports Club Started in Downey, CA
What is a community sports club?
Who is it for?
Where do we play?
In 2023, we gathered at the HFA Clubhouse and asked ourselves these exact questions. Through a series of workshops with our coaches, we began shaping the idea of a community-led sports club, one that’s inclusive, local, and built for everyone.
The first result? Our adult tennis team was born. That team has been going strong ever since, and it sparked something bigger.
Since then, we’ve grown into a full tennis club with a youth academy, adult teams, and regular meetups. On the soccer side, we’ve hosted futsal nights, free training sessions, and community practices. Now we’re looking ahead to building out an official soccer team and adding basketball to the mix too.
We’re still asking those same questions today as we grow: What else can we build together?
One thing’s for sure: this is just the beginning for our club.
