Student Coach Application

Thank you for your interest in becoming an HFA Student Coach!⭐

The HFA Student Coach Program gives high school students the opportunity to gain hands-on coaching experience, develop as leaders, and make an impact in their own communities.

As a Student Coach, you’ll work alongside HFA Mentor Coaches to support youth sports programs at local schools and community events. You’ll also have opportunities to participate in coaching education, leadership development, mentorship, and experiences beyond the field.

Applications are accepted year-round.

WHO CAN APPLY

  • High school students in grades 9–12

  • Students who are interested in serving Downey, El Monte, & Whittier

  • Students who are interested in learning, leading, and working with younger athletes

  • No previous coaching experience is required

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Student Coach, you may:

  • Assist with youth practices and programming at an assigned school site

  • Support HFA game days and community events

  • Work alongside an HFA Mentor Coach

  • Participate in coaching education and leadership development

  • Attend Student Coach meetings, workshops, and community experiences

  • Track your volunteer hours and coaching experience

Please make sure you can commit to participating consistently during the school year. Coaching opportunities are based on HFA program needs, school partnerships, and student availability.

Submitting an application does not guarantee an immediate placement. Qualified students may be contacted when a coaching opportunity is available.

INTERESTED IN THE STUDENT COACH MICRO-INTERNSHIP?

The HFA Student Coach Micro-Internship is a structured opportunity for a select group of Student Coaches who are ready to take on additional responsibility.

Micro-Interns build on their coaching experience through additional training, mentorship, and leadership opportunities. Students who successfully complete the program receive a stipend.
